An alleged illegal migrant has caused outrage after boasting about living for free in a UK hotel while making money.

In footage posted on TikTok and shared on X the migrant, known as ‘Omer’ can be seen dropping note after note of a large wad of money onto the floor of his hotel.

People have shared the video claiming he is bragging about the money he has earned on the black market.

The footage, which has gone viral online, has raised questions about the state of the UK’s asylum system and the influence of the black market.

Sharing the footage on X, journalist Isabel Oakeshott wrote: “WATCH: Omer, a Channel migrant who lives for free in a Derby hotel. Here he is, boasting about all the cash he makes working on the black market. What a mockery of our asylum system!”

Commentator Lee Harris shared Ms Oakeshott’s post with the footage. He commented: “Meet Omer, an illegal channel migrant living for free in a Derby hotel, bragging about all the money he’s earning on the black market…This country is a joke.”

Mr Harris added: “We are a tolerant, fair, and welcoming country. If you come here legally, have the skills we need, work hard, and contribute to the economy… excellent. No problem at all. But this is not right or fair. We need to put a stop to it.”

Both Ms Oakeshott’s original post and Mr Harris’ re-post of the clip created a wave of outrage on the social media platform with users calling for change as the UK suffers through a cost of living crisis.

One user wrote: “A nice free hotel room as our people are freezing to death on the streets and under bridges. Shame on our government.”

Another user said: “Well there is the man himself, so the police should be knocking on his hotel room door.”

The video was shared online hours before the Mail reported that some channel migrants were working illegally as fast food delivery drivers for takeaway firms. Their investigation claimed that some deliveries were being subcontracted out to migrants who were banned from working.

Speaking about the matter, Reform UK’s leader Richard Tice condemned the likes of Deliveroo, Uber Eats and Just Eat.

He added that urgent legislation was needed to solve the problem.

Mr Tice said: “Deliveroo, Just Eat and Uber Eats have been turning a blind eye to illegal working by asylum seekers on a massive scale in the UK. They should be ashamed of themselves and they should immediately stop all substitution accounts.

“The Government must pass urgent legislation with heavy fines on these delivery companies if they transgress.”

In a statement about the matter, Deliveroo said they had “introduced facial recognition technology which will help to counter any abuse on the platform”.

Uber Eats added that all of its couriers “must pass a criminal background check, be over the age of 18 and hold a valid right to work in the UK”.
