Meghan Markle has been advised not to be “overly sensationalistic” if she decides to write about the Royal Family in her rumoured memoir.

The Duchess of Sussex has been no stranger to bombshell allegations against the institution since stepping away from her official role alongside Prince Harry in 2020.

While the couple in recent months have signalled an intention to shift their focus towards their charity work, Meghan has persistently been tipped to write a more comprehensive record of her experience as a member of the monarchy.

PR expert Mayah Riaz suggested the Duchess would need to be especially “strategic” in her focus and decide whether to expand on her claims about racially sensitive questions from members of the institution.

Riaz said: “If Meghan is writing her memoir, she will have approached this with a strategic mindset.

“Depending on how Meghan approaches this in the book, it could be seen as reopening wounds and reigniting public interest in the ongoing feud. This could result in further scrutiny, backlash and damage to her reputation.

“If a memoir is being published, she will have no doubt carefully navigated the content and the tone of it, as she would want it to resonate with her intended audience and of course minimise any negative consequences.”

On whether Meghan writing a memoir is a good idea, Riaz said: “This depends on two factors; the public’s reception of it and the impact it will have on the Royal Family.

“Meghan may want to write her memoir as she feels there is a lot being said about her and her experiences by other people and not directly coming from her mouth.”

She added: “Writing a memoir would be her opportunity to have it said in her own words. What I would remind Meghan is that whilst sharing personal experiences can be empowering, it can also be controversial – as we have already seen.

“She may gain support from those who sympathise with her, but there is also a very real possibility of her facing criticism or backlash from those who disagree or have a very different perspective.”
