It’s that time of year when friends and families will be watching some festive classics together at home.

But the question is, what is the nation’s favourite Christmas movie of all time?

A new poll by Currys asked 2000 Brits and 21 per cent voted for Home Alone, which came out on top.

That’s the second year in a row for the 1990 comedy starring Macaulay Culkin, who was given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame last week.

Elf and The Grinch came second and third respectively, but surprisingly Die Hard came 10th and The Muppet’s Christmas Carol was all the way down in 15th.

The UK’s top 20 films to watch at Christmas

The survey also found: “As well as snuggling down on the sofa and watching a movie being the number one tradition for 37 per cent of Brits, other wholesome traditions that made the top of the list are opening the last door on the advent calendar (20 per cent), hanging out stockings for presents (19%) and wearing new Christmas PJs (18.8 per cent).

“When it comes to opening presents, which is undoubtedly the main event on Christmas Day for many, nearly half (46 per cent) of Brits open their presents as soon as they get up, 28 per cent wait until after breakfast to open gifts, while 18 per cent of Brits will have to wait until after lunch!

“Even when the day itself is done, many continue with traditions on Boxing Day. While most will be spending time with family (36 per cent), watching movies (25 per cent) and just lounging around (24 per cent), 11 per cent will instead be hitting the Boxing Day sales and the same number will be watching a football match.
