The red carpet was awash with the biggest names in film and TV and, after months away from the spotlight due to last year’s actors’ strike, the A-listers clearly relished the opportunity to get all glammed up.

Pink, red and lilac dominated on the colour front as did shimmering fabrics.

Frills, bows, 3D flowers and lace were certainly all big trends while there was no shortage of sequins.

Barbie star Margot Robbie, 33, lost out to Emma Stone in the best actress category but the Aussie pulled off one of the night’s winning looks in a hot pink Armani Privé gown.

Modelled on a dress worn by the SuperStar Barbie from 1977, it came complete with a tulle boa.

Poor Things actress Emma, 35, meanwhile, looked chic in a delicately embroidered Louis Vuitton number and Jennifer Lopez, 54, made an impact in a blush-coloured Nicole + Felicia design with oversized rosebud sleeves.

May December star Julianne Moore, 63, in Bottega Veneta, and Oppenheimer’s Florence Pugh, 28, in Valentino, both looked ravishing in red, while Dame Helen Mirren, 78, hit a purple patch in an elegant satin gown and matching opera coat by Dolce & Gabbana.

Nominated for a Globe for her Eras concert film, Taylor Swift, 34, was polished in a slinky green Gucci gown while The Crown’s Elizabeth Debicki, 33, showed off her own style icon status in a glistening Dior haute couture creation.

But it was not all rainbow brights and metallics.

British Saltburn star Rosamund Pike, 44, served up a look that was almost as jaw-dropping as the comedy-thriller itself.

In a Dior haute couture black prom dress with a Philip Treacy hat and lace veil, the Hammersmith-born actress appeared to be channelling her on-screen alter-ego, eccentric ex-model Elspeth Catton. Rosamund later revealed her face was injured in a festive skiing accident.

She said: “On December 26, my face was entirely smashed up and I thought I need to do something. Actually it’s healed – but I fell in love with the look.”
